Studying the new role

Movie star Bradley Cooper was in the crowd at the city police department's swearing-in ceremony Monday morning in City Hall's rotunda, no doubt studying up on his upcoming role as a cop in "The Place Beyond the Pines," which is shooting in Schenectady this summer.

Cooper, star of "The Hangover" and "Wedding Crashers," didn't try to hide himself behind a hat or sunglasses, but didn't want attention drawn to himself at the ceremony for five new recruits, said Acting Mayor Gary McCarthy.

McCarthy said Cooper has been shadowing Schenectady police officers for the last couple of days, but isn't sure how much the Hollywood actor will be doing it in the future.
Cooper will be starring alongside Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes and Ray Liotta for the movie, which will shoot around Schenectady into the fall. Producers for the film have been scouting out shooting locations, but filming has not started yet.
